So, Richard Bruton has determined he will not remove the religious test for school entry. I mean, didn’t Jesus himself say “feck off ye unbaptised heathens, no education for YOU!!!”
It is abundantly clear that the catholic church has no interest or will to reduce its school patronage. They will play the long game, with a 2000 year history they are experts at that.
So, we have a situation where a child will be denied entry to a state built, state funded school because their parents haven’t engaged in one particular religious ceremony. Right..
So, we need a simple bill. Here is that bill. Single clause. It would need topping and tailing, and perhaps linkages to other bills etc but …. Will any brave legislator take this on and put it to a vote?
1 : No primary or second level school, in receipt of state funds for the payment of teachers employed therein, shall operate entry or admission criteria which in whole or in part rely on the religion of the proposed student, their parents or guardians.
